Two poems
by: Sydney Godzik
The Night
As the sun says its goodbyes
The vibrant sunset dissolves into the stars
Making way for the glowing moon,
Staring into everyone’s windows
Street lights and headlights flicker in the darkness
Puddles on pavement reflect each drop of light
As the stars sprinkle themselves across the sky
Lights out in houses surrounding
You can hear the splashing of tires on the street
A calm melody strung as the rain clashes with the pavement
No one is around
This is the time the world can finally relax
The darkness is a blanket meant to put everyone to sleep
As the sun says its goodbyes
Pursue
It was you I had wished to pursue
You, a tangled net I got myself into
If only I knew about you
A combination of who you really were and what I drew
My essence was opened to you, now I cannot undo
So quickly you flew once your end was through
From what view was this okay to do?
I remain with what is true
In you, resounds a soul that is nothing but empty and blue
A slew of danger filled with repulse, just like your tattoo
Emotions stirred that will not subdue
How do you even have it in you
Thoughts left to marinate like stew
Sending me to a point of doubt that was beyond untrue
But now
I see the value
To be through is to be free
From a shoe that never fit
New wisdom from pain is my new point of view
Learning that all of our stories are the same, nothing new
When I find a new I know he will be nothing like you
After what I have been through,
I am new.
