Ask the Author with Sarah Lopes
TT: How long have you been writing? What interested you about it?
SL: I began writing at the age of twelve in 2012. When I began writing, I used it as solely an outlet for my emotions. The more I wrote, the more I fell in love with words and morphing them to create the image I wanted them to. Imagery is one of my favorite things, so the more I worked with it, the more drive I had to master it.
TT: What inspired you to write this piece(s)?
SL: There are many things that inspired me to write this piece. It was a dream of desire that I took and made into a poem. Since I do not dream often, I wrote about a dream with a loved one I had, but was rudely woken up by my alarm clock that smacked me back into reality of waking up alone.
TT: Is this similar or different to other things you’ve written? How so?
SL: This piece is similar to my other pieces because it is about a personal part of my life and it follows a similar form to others I have written.
TT: Who is your favorite author or writer? What do you like about their work?
SL: My favorite writer is Lang Leav. Lang Leav takes such personal moments to her and morphs it into something beautiful. She also plays with the form of her poems, which captures my attention. While her work is personal to her, it is broad enough that I can relate to aspects of the pieces, or others in their entirety.
