Ask the Author with Joseph Marciniak
TT: How long have you been writing? What interested you about it?
JM: I’ve been writing since middle school. I loved the idea that even though my thought process and scatterbrained mind are somewhat incomprehensible, I can still manage to display what’s going on up there through my writing. I always want people to be able to hear my own voice when they read my work.
TT: What inspired you to write this piece(s)?
JM: Back in high school, I used to joke about being a bad student, and even now at Fredonia I’m definitely not a great student, but I love the idea of someone like me still managing to have an impact on students around them. I want everyone to feel like they’ve got a place, even if they aren’t the smartest student in their class.
TT: Is this similar or different to other things you’ve written? How so?
JM: My voice is exactly the same in this essay as it is in my other writing. I try to capture words and sentence fragments running rampant in my brain together to really formulate that Joe Marciniak tone of writing.
TT: Who is your favorite author or writer? What do you like about their work?
JM: Okay, this technically isn’t ONE writer, but I have always appreciate the writers behind The Onion. The specific voice they have is so clear in every piece they write, it’s honestly an inspiration for my own writing. It’s always honest, comedic, and sometimes glaringly stupid–just the type of writing I love.
