Sister, Mother
by: Carly Grimm
Preadolescence filled with two older sisters, with
Friday nights absent of my mother.
She was up on Broadway with her friends,
as young men filled her phone contacts.
The eldest fed me and yelled at my wrongs. The
middle one held my hand and kissed my wounds.
Good cop, Bad cop.
Both substitutes for my proper childhood.
I looked forward to zoo filled weekends with my
dad. Visits to my grandpa's chocolate-made house.
Two patriarchal men who named a girl Scott. They
gave me a sense of humor.
My sisters helped with my homework,
and told me how to treat my friends.
Mom eventually came around and,
we were all able to move on.
